Music through Feeling and Oral Tradition
Beyond written notes, music is first and foremost a matter of vibration, instinct, and shared connection. Drawing on her background at the crossroads of classical music, jazz, and world music, Aurélie Tropez offers a vibrant pedagogy that places the human element, the ear, and the body back at the center of learning.
Freed from the filter of sheet music, her approach explores sound in its physical and organic dimensions. Teaching is about learning to listen, to sing, to feel the rhythm within, and allowing the instrumental gesture to become a natural extension of the voice.
In-depth work on posture, natural breathing, and the search for a personal, warm tone. Learning to embrace the clarinet or saxophone not merely as a technical tool, but as a physical extension of one's own inner voice.
Learning to play the way we learn to speak: through listening, call-and-response, and imitation. Working without sheet music helps release instinct, develop sensory memory, and naturally internalize the phrasing of jazz (swing, inflections) and traditional music (choros, Creole music).
Group workshops focusing on band cohesion, ensemble dynamics, and swing. How to physically feel a shared pulse together, listen to one another without looking, and interact spontaneously. Ideal for horn sections and jazz orchestras.
